Happy Anniversary Empowering You
I can't believe Empowering You is entering into it's third year of business. We have "empowered"
over 500 clients and still growing everyday. I am so proud of my company and what it has done for so many people.
If someone was to ask me where most of the growth has come from in 2011, I would have to say that we have finally become "doctor
recognized". So many of our new clients have become happy, but most of all healthy and their family doctor's are
so pleased, finally there is a nutrition center in St. John's where their patients can go to seek advice on weight loss and
nutrition.
Empowering You is finally a place to go to become more healthy and happy
without the pressure of purchasing products and simple quick fixes. I only employ expects in the area of nutrition and
wellness. This is an industry that is constantly changing and I am proud and excited to say that I am now studying Nutrition
at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition.
On a final note, the success of Empowering
You not only comes from myself or my staff, but from the clients as well. A huge thank you to all our Clients.
Word of mouth has out numbered any other form of advertising in 2011.....WE MUST BE DOING SOMETHING
RIGHT!!!!!
Be good to yourself,
Brenda Barry
Proud owner and director of Empowering You Lifestyle Center.
Message from our Head Nutritionist, Gail Vaughan
Wow, what an
amazing three years it has been! I have been so lucky to meet so many amazing individuals throughout my time with Empowering
You. Every client has been different with their own reason for wanting to live a healthier and happier life. I'm
so proud of all the clients I have worked with, past and present, who have not only decided that they wanted to take their
health into their own hands but also were brave enough to pen up to us and let us help guide and educate them. As I
always say, this is NOT a diet. You are changing your lifestyle and with that comes taking charge of your life.
It's not always an easy step, and no one is perfect. We certainly don't expect anyone to be. What I love to see
most is a client who realizes they aren't perfect but still strives to be better and to make better choices.
I
knew I wanted to return to St. John's after I finished school to help educate people in health and wellness. Since Empowering
You opened its doors in 2009, I have had the change to educate people on healthy food choices, help clients lose weight
and keep it off, counsel clients on numerous health issues such as diabetes, fatty liver disease and high blood pressure.
I have seen clients reduce the amoung of medication they have to take, or better yet, get off of them all together.
Being a part of someone's health and happiness is the most rewarding part of my job. I hope to be able to continue to
help educate Newfoundlander's for years to come!!!

How to Shop for a Weight Loss Program Today there are so many weight
loss companies to choose from- Ones with supplements, special foods, and the list goes on! Before you commit, below are a
few things to keep in mind: - Don't go into a consultation upset. If something
in your life has prompted you to lose weight, take a day or two to calm down. This will enable you to go into a consultation
with a rational and clear mind. By doing so, you can ask the proper questions so the consultant can't play on your emotions.
- If
the weight loss program involves product, there's a good chance you'll be pressured into purchasing it. Make sure these products
don't interfere with a health risk or medications.
- Some weight loss programs offer financing options. Weight loss
is a non-tangible product. Ask about the interest rate and don't finance the program longer than the time you are going through
it. Do you want to be paying for a program you did last year 2012? This can happen. Again, buyer beware.
- In the consultation,
inquire about staff qualification. Can they handle your health risks/ needs? The immediate staff may only be trained on company
policies and procedures, but this doesn't make them nutritionists. They may also be trained to follow a script, so pay close
attention to the rapport they have with you. Watch for over- coming objections, a sales tactic used to play on your guilt
in order to purchase their program.
- Read the sales agreement CAREFULLY, especially the fine print. Once it's signed,
it can be difficult to get out of!
No matter what weight loss program you choose,
investigate it first. Have a list of questions ready, stay calm and do not allow your emotions to get in the way.
